Totchtawan Satisfied with Toyota Mekong Club Championship Triumph to Start 2018
SCG Muangthong United FC coach Totchtawan Sripan believes winning the Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2017 was a positive start to what is shaping up to be a big year for his side.
SCG Muangthong United FC were crowned the winners of the Toyota Mekong Club Championship in their tournament debut on Saturday, after a 4-0 win over Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN FC at the Supachalasai National Stadium earned them a 7-1 aggregate triumph in the final.
While their campaign has only just begun, they showed glimpses of quality and Totchtawan believes this bodes well for them ahead of a crucial couple of weeks where they will be looking to qualify for the AFC Champions League.
“I’m happy with this result for many reasons,” he said.
“It’s our first clean sheet of the season, it’s brought happiness to our supporters and, overall, it’s a good start to the New Year.”
“We found it tough to score in the first half because Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN FC applied a lot of pressure on us.”
“But, once we scored the first goal in the second half, it was easier to get more as the game opened up.”
“For us, it’s only just the start of pre-season and our preparations for the ACL preliminary round, so there’s lost to improve on like our tactics.”
Meanwhile, SCG Muangthong United FC star striker Teerasil Dangda, who scored his side’s third goal on Saturday and was named Man of the Match, is looking for another hurrah to add to the TMCC crown before he departs to join Japanese outfit Sanfrecce Hiroshima on loan.
“I’m preparing to go to Japan in February but, for now, I am focused on helping SCG Muangthong United FC qualify for the Champions League,” said the Thailand international.
“I want to help the team reach the group stage and then I’ll see what my next step is.”
