SCG Muangthong United FC Win Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2017

SCG Muangthong United FC won the Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2017 on Saturday after recording a 7-1 aggregate win over Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN FC.
Heading into the second leg at the Supachalasai National Stadium leading 3-1 on aggregate, Muangthong overcame a slow first-half display to claim a 4-0 victory courtesy of goals after the break by Adisak Kraisorn, Thossawat Limwannasathian, Teerasil Dangda and Siroch Chatthong.
However, it could have been a far different game had Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN FC been able to capitalise on the promising start they made to the contest, along with a penalty that was spurned by the usually-lethal Youssouf Toure.
It was the Thai hosts who had the first opportunity after five minutes when a counterattack saw Adisak slip a lovely through-pass to Sarach Yooyen, only for him to be denied one-on-one by Nguyen Tuan Manh.
But the Vietnamese outfit gradually found their rhythm and captain Chaher Zarour just failed to keep a diving header on target in the 21st minute, after Tran Dinh Khuong had flicked a corner into his path.
Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN FC were then presented with a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the 38th minute, when Lam Ti Phong was brought down inside the box by Nukoolkit Krutyai.
Having been so prolific all tournament long with seven goals in his previous four outings, Youssouf Toure could only watch on in dismay as his tame penalty was saved by Kawin Thamsatchanan.
The miss proved costly just nine minutes after the restart when SCG Muangthong United FC finally broke the deadlock; Sarach floating in a free kick that sailed over a sea of players but found Adisak, who ghosted in from behind to sweep home from a couple of yards out.
Just three minutes later, their lead was doubled when Adisak turned provider, keeping the ball alive from a poor cross by Teerasil before laying it off for Thossawat to skip past a man and drill a shot into the bottom corner.
By now, the contest was effectively over but SCG Muangthong United FC were determined the give the home fans their money’s worth and continued to push forward with intent.
Teerasil got in on the act in the 78th minute when he beat the offside trap to run onto Heberty’s slide-rule pass before coolly finishing past the onrushing Tuan Manh.
And, a minute from time, the rout was completed when substitute Siroch forced his way free inside the box before blasting a low shot into the back of the net to seal the Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2017 title for SCG Muangthong United FC.
