SCG Muangthong United FC Claim Final (1st Leg) Win Over Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN FC
SCG Muangthong United FC have one hand on the Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2017 trophy after beating Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN FC 3-1 in the Final (1st Leg).
Adisak Kraisorn opened the scoring for the Thai giants at the Hang Day Stadium on Saturday when he netted on the rebound, only for Youssouf Toure to equalise for Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN FC three minutes before the break.
But, with three minutes remaining, Sarach Yooyen restored SCG Muangthong United FC’s advantage before Adisak scored again in injury-time to put his side in a strong position ahead of the second leg on 6 January 2018.
However, Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN FC will feel like they should have gotten more out of Saturday’s game after showing plenty of endeavour against their more-illustrious opponents.
The Vietnamese hosts did not get off to the best of starts as they fell behind after just six minutes when Siroch Chatthong brushed off the challenge of Tran Van Vu to race through down the left.
Although his tame effort was saved by Nguyen Tuan Manh, Adisak was on hand to pounce on the loose ball and squeeze his shot into the bottom corner.
It could easily have been 2-0 in the 10th minute when the visitors were awarded a freekick on the edge of the box, but Theerathon Bunmathan’s excellent curling attempt came back off the bar with Tuan Manh beaten all ends up.
Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN FC had a chance to respond four minutes later when Le Duy Thanh twisted his way free inside the area before his low cross found Toure, who was unable to keep his shot down from six yards out.
However, there was no denying the French striker in the 42nd minute when he was allowed to race free down the right and – while he was faced with a difficult angle – made no mistake in clinically finishing into the bottom corner.
Buoyed at drawing level, the hosts played with plenty of attacking intent after halftime and looked the likelier of the two teams to score again, although the final pass just eluded them at times.
They did give the visitors a real scare in the 80th minute when Chaher Zarour met a right-wing delivery with a looping header that had opposition keeper Kawin Thamsatchanan stranded, only for Nukoolkit Krutyai to come to SCG Muangthong United FC’s rescue with a goal-line clearance.
Seven minutes after that close shave, SCG Muangthong United FC capitalised on a sweeping counterattack which saw Adisak time his run perfectly to beat the offside trap and run onto Theerathon’s slide-rule pass, before squaring the ball to leave Sarach with a simple tap-in.
And, in the fourth minute of injury-time, it was Teerasil Dangda’s turn to get in behind the Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN FC backline and he unselfishly laid the ball off to Adisak, who finished into the unguarded net from close range to seal the win for the Thai side.
