Lanexang United FC Marches Forward to the Semi-final After 3-3 Draw with Yadanarbon FC
Lao Premier League champion, Lanexang United FC, successfully advanced to the next round as a result of an exciting 3-3 draw with Myanmar’s National League champion, Yadanarbon FC, in the last match of the Round 1 of the Toyota Mekong Club Championship (TMCC) 2016.
With 18,173 spectators watching, both the teams used their best line up in their fight to get a ticket for the semi-final spot. Within the first 15 minutes, Lanexang United FC got two goals due to the mistakes of Yadanarbon FC. At the 11th minute, Manolom Phomsouvanh scored the first goal by shooting it past the opponent’s goalkeeper. Two minutes later, another goal for Laos team came from Latsamy Phachanhtha’s superb long kick. Desperate, Yadanarbon FC played more aggressively and in the 21st minute, got their first goal from team captain Yan Paing’s header.
In the beginning of the second half, Yadanarbon FC changed two players at the same time in an effort to control the damage. But Lanexang United FC only needed a draw, so they shifted to play with a more defensive approach. In the 83rd minute, Lanexang’s captain Soukaphone Vongchiengkham found the net, giving the precious third goal to Laos champions. Nevertheless, Yadanarbon FC did not give up and fought back in front of the loyal home fans. Biassi William made the second goal in the 85th minute and a substitution to Yuya Wada brought an equalizer in the additional time. However, it was too late for Yadanarbon FC to get a winning result.
“We would like to congratulate Lanexang United FC. We played in our best form, but allowed two goals in first 20 minutes because of our mistakes. It is clear that if such kind of mistakes happen, it is very difficult to recover even if it’s just a national competition. It is much more difficult in an international tournament.”, said Rene Desaeyere, head coach of Yadanarbon FC, with regret for his team’s errors.
Meanwhile, Leonardo Vitorino, head coach of Lanexang United FC said, “I feel disappointed because my team should have played better. They played only 70% of their actual capacity. But I’m still happy as my team will go to the semi-final in an international tournament like TMCC. Since we have many young players, there were many mistakes. But we will fix this. I believe that we can beat Cambodia’s Boeung Ket Angkor FC in the semi-final, and in the finals, we may defeat Thailand’s Buriram United FC.“
Lanexang United FC and Boeung Ket Angkor FC will meet at the semi-final match of the TMCC 2016 on 31st December, 18:00 at the National Olympic stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
