Lanexang Hosts SHB Da Nang for the Opening Game of Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2016
Lanexang United won the LPL 2016 with a six points margin over Lao Toyota who was the previous year’s champion. On the other hand, SHB Da Nang occupied the third-place in the V-League 1 with only one point behind the top teams. Both teams will face each other for the first time in the opening game of TMCC 2016, on 5th November and the match will be held at Chao Anouvong Stadium in the capital of Lao PDR, Vientiane.
Lanexang United has the advantage of playing at home. But it will not be an easy game for the visiting team from Vietnam as all the fans will support the home team, Lanexang. Having said this, SHB Da Nang has the experience of participating in the big tournaments in the AFC Cup during 2010 and 2013 which will be their advantage. However, both the teams are at par with each other in terms of quality of their players in their squad.
Lanexang United has signed many top players from the LPL and also good foreign players. Lanexang’s statistics show that they have not lost a single home game this season (Win: 24, Draw:1 and Lost: 1) and they are also the team scoring the most goals in the league. Meanwhile, SHB Da Nang is the second top scoring team in the V-League after 26 games this season (Lost: 7 and Draw: 4).
This season, Lanexang United was the best attacking team in the league. They played with three forwards and skillfully changing the variations of their passing during game, displayed a very powerful attack. The key players for the team are Laos National team player Khampheng Xayavuthi (scored 12 goals) and Khonesavan Syhavong who has a brilliant control over the ball. Other players to note are, Japanese midfielder Kosuke who is great at timing his tackle and the center back Sengdao Inthalard.
SHB Da Nang has assembled a very strong squad in the V-League 1 and is one of the best supported clubs in Vietnam (2nd highest home attendance in V-league 1 in 2016). SHB Da Nang’s manager Lê Huỳnh Đức joined the team in 2008. This year, under his coaching, his squad has developed skills to give powerful long passes directly to the forward players such as Gaston Merlo. Gaston Merlo is the Argentinian forward who won the league’s top scorer award 2016.
Their captain, Nguyen Vu Phong is the main man controlling the midfield for the team. Since 2014 he has played 39 games, scored 14 goals and he is also the part of the Vietnam national squad. Another Vietnam National player in the team is Vo Huy Toan who plays in the midfield and is a very versatile player. They have also recruited foreign player Eydison who played for Matsumoto Yamaga in Japanese League 2 (J2).
It is evident from SHB Da Nang’s playing style and the quality of the team that Lanexang United will be facing a very hard game ahead. We will definitely see Lanexang continuing their attacking style right from the start hoping to secure the precious points and try to take full advantage in the home game. This game will be intense as well as exciting for the fans. Many goals might be scored because both the teams have talented forwards in their squad. Lanexang United will need to avoid the mistakes near the box as they have a bad record of unnecessary fouls in Laos League which the Vietnamese team will not hesitate to cash in with their accurate free kick around the box.
For this match, Lanexang might focus on the attacking the opponent, but they also need to look out for the counter attack from SHB Da Nang and also their long passes.
Join us at Chao Anouvong Stadium on 5th November to find out who shall dominate this exciting opening game between Lanexang United and SHB Da Nang. Kick off time is 18:00 pm.
